Great Finds !! a room in progress

I am currently in a home dec hunting mode . I hate paying full price -- when i know there are great finds just waiting to be had . I am currently redoing my living room -- Needs fresh paint ya know ! Think I have decided on a color not too dark or light - Just right -- It is a creamy
gold color called Wheat straw --I need to get a sample can --just to see - and paint a big swath
of it on my wall .
Having an old victorian farmhouse is synonomus with a wrap around porch-
so there is not a lot of light coming in the windows- plus we have huge oak trees surrounding . So, as you know , paint can look very different on the wall than
in the can or sample .

I bought a great tapestry fabric and Hub and I shopped for a comfy sofa style to have it
put on - we have a great store not very far - Tapestry fabric, very sturdy doesn't mind , grandchildren
or a little snooze in comfort for my " Sweetiedog "- part poodle part shi-tzu. as sofas are
pricey these days -
Well , one morning was killing a little time in town , before a schedule meeting --and ran int
my local Goodwill store -- I was one of only 3or 4 customers -- and I found these - two great side occasional chairs - with sage green suede -in perfect condition -- and each was only $20
I love the carved details and the color goes so well with the pillow that is the tapestry fabric for my sofa. I also found this 100%wool runner -for $8.65 - crazy pricing -but ya gotta love it !
Will show you the finished product , when I get hub in the painting mood , and get everything put back together .

Flea Market Frenzy -- I hit the big one !!!

After a long week in Bible school at night - I needed
some "me " time - hub golfs -I go to
my fav fleas - it certainly eats into your shopping budget -they
are about an hour away and with the cost of gas ,it gets pricey.
Of course i have to have a car that can haul furniture . Right !
So not very economical -- some things pictured somewire baskets in the back
and a needlepoint sign -i couldn't resist --
There is a part two to this story --don't have the pics done as yet .
You know how on the shows -you go shopping in your own house
for a no cost dec ideas --(just rearrange ) well I went shopping in my
Daughters garage -- can we say ( mother -lode ! ha ha - I made a funny )
wow - wait til you see - she was staging for her flea shop and decluttering -
her house .
So I made out well - plus she saved the price of comission to the
antique -flea mkt. she sells at locally .

This was one of the most productive and
inexpensive purchases in a while all
of these were at great prices and then on
a 25% off sale - I couldn't believe it . total
it was about $25- amazing.

all these old lace pieces were wrapped carefull as you see them -

they were all in a bag together for 2.65-?

funny pricing -The great , pink heartbox , that i am displaying

in was $1- the sticker on the bottom said

Voctoria's secret - it is a very sturdy one .

I love all the intricate work in these ,the whole

batch was only $3

the sewing items are hard to find -at least hem

tape -look at the original prices 19 -15 and -29

cents .

pink basket -was my favorite color -- and is fairly large .

All the glass canisters were found at a

thrift store ,altogether they were about $10

This great glass canister(very heavy)

is about 10 in .tall also and circumference -20 in .

I already had the lemons - needs a few more .

This dome is about ten inches tall -- the vintage style bouquet

was purchased at a anothe flea mkt .during my trip

and the metal lace plate is a fave from about 3 yrs

ago - not a bargain -but very cherished

T

His little dome was just perfect , I matched it up to another glass dish - This little cup _(sorry fuzzy pic :( was paired with a plate -

About ten years ago, on e-bay, I bought some dishes of this pattern dishes -because of the wonderful yellow and pink border- to use for display - -over the years I have added to it

I still love them - they are an unusual square shape -this baby (demitasse - i guess ? )

cup and the bread plate were only $2.50-

SEE BELOW _ Blogger ate my Picture !!! or am I losing it ?? LOL

THis is the cabinet pic that went with the post below -- enjoy

"A STYLE OF HER OWN "

I wanted to share a few pics of my precious
daughter's home -- She has such a sense of style ,
and always finds great things at bargain prices .
Of course she is a natural leader and can
bargain with the best of them .

Thse blue transferware platesd are some of my faves
-but this cabinet makes me drool- She bought the cabinet ,
a matching buffet and table and chairs for a song .

The detail is amazing and so french -oh la la -I love
it . The chair next to it -is perfect - I love the red chippy paint -
It is one of my favorite things in her home .

This very old pitcher -resides in the kitchen . the inside
truly tells it's age - sorry no pic of that

Her kitchen is a raspberry color -- She defininately
isn't afraid of color. She has quite a collection
of wonderful plates -- This is my favorite
-I think lol .

She found this sweet little shelf - painted it shabby green
and it resides on her counter with sweet collectibles .
The little round wooden box is her aspecial prize
to her ♥ . Her Dad turned it - it is a wish box --
She likes to have it near -- she truly loves him -
They like the same books -etc and both have
a quick wit . they are always making me laugh.

OK -- I will say it now -- not supposed to envy anyone
or covet -- especially family -- but this welsh cabinet in
her kitchen does me in . _She bought it and immediately
filled it with wonderful goodies.
Like these sweet collections below

She collects many different things - as do I
guess I passed on the addiction .
My family lived during the depression
with that make do attitude .
So years later , it was out with all the
old and on to the newly manufactured .
My Mom didn't like any antiques nor
did her siblings , so alas all my antiques
are ones I have collected -none were passed
down - so therby I had to do it -- RIGHT !!!
(do I have to mention collection addiction lol )

I love the details on the doors , of course the knobs
were new , and seems to fit the look perfectly
to me . I love period details ,but not a stickler .
If it suits my eye that's all that's all that matters.

Her collection of plates goes around the soffit in the kitchen
( impressed with that soffit - info ? LOL ) hub
has been a builder for 42 yrs -- I amaze myself sometimes that
I know builder lingo lol !!!

She also collects tole trays -- which have been
one of my fav collectibles . I only
collect those with a black background
Some bargains can still be found, but not many
I started many years ago , before all the

mags had them in most issues . In fact
they were really a country item . I have the
first issue of "Country Homes " magazine ,
It is packed away somewhere , so can't
remember the date - but we have lived
here in our current home for 30 yrs and it was before that ,
anyway they were popular then and could be
seen in those mags --
Hope you enjoyed the mini-tour . I will
post others at a later date -- The grandkids ,
rooms are adorable also (ahem , I painted some of the items there
lol -- will tell a crazy story about victoria's secret paper -
glue and a crazy idea --yikes makes me tired to think of it .

Have a great day !!! Kathy

Blessings and Blogging about " SOUTHERN HOME "

Sometimes , in my everyday world of hustle and bustle --I forget
what a beautiful town I live in -- I
never want to take it for granted -- It is not a small town
now . It has grown so much since we moved here 30 yrs ago.
There are so many grand old houses here , some were built in the late
1800's and some are cottage style homes dating much later , but all have
such charm and pride of place . I just wanted to share a few pictures with you
as I was out and about town .There are too many to capture all
of them , but here are a few of my favorites.. In the spring every Thursday for a month
there is a lunchtime concert on the square - sometimes
bluegrass , southern gospel or country . It is so charming ,
with families with picnics and babies in strollers or men
in business suits from the courthouse enjoying lunch
and a little chat with friends that they may encounter .
In past years , I participated with my daughter and grandchildren
,but alas babies grow up and go to school - Occasionally on this same square
is everyboy and man's dream -- "SOUTHERN CRUISERS " "A Car show " -- they are all lined up around the square, and it is blocked off -for safety . There is everything from model T's to muscle cars and everything in between . You can chat with the owners and get a close up view --This occurs several times a year usually on Sunday afternoons or
Saturday's after business hours .
In November of each year ,the stores around the square stay open late on Thursdays for evening shopping .
There are carriage rides around the square -- and friends and women's church groups meet for a stroll , coffee or sometimes a sweet treat at the ice cream Parlor.

As i have reminisced about our town -I realize
that that is what community is all about .
I feel so privileged to live in such a wonderful town
Not perfect -- but still keeping some of the
southern traditions of graciousness , kindness
and pride of place , while going forward with
being inclusive of all people to partake of this
place we call home . I truly am proud to be not a southern
belle , but a southern lady. While not born or raised here
, I can say that it is truly a blessing to call this place " HOME "

Guest room Decorating part 2

This flag is very large
and hanging over a bookcase -it is one of the remains
of my son's decor- so when you see blue touches
in this room they will be removed soon .

As you can see I wasn't kidding about the jumble ,

The blue is a draped table - left over from my son's
decor- It really looked great the blue , red and khaki.

I found this print at Hobby Lobby and fell in love with
the print and frame and of course I had a 40%
coupon from online -- It works well with the curtains
I bought at a Shabbychic consignment shoppe
for $45-- amazing , As my home is a turn of the century
victorian , the windows are huge and every drape
idea takes a lot of material-

The toile I loved and found at one of those $7
fabric stores the background is a creamyyellow-
It was just a remnant -not sure where I will use it .

This is a close up of the curtains . When i looked the
selvedge (?) edge said Laura Ashley - wow
I was so excited .

Months later ( this is the truth - sounds like a fairy tale )
I found this topper - valence-at an antique shop ) It was
50 miles from where I bought the first - and has a sewn on border
of a contrasting fabric I love ( Laura Ashley also )
and some flowers have the golden tan look which I
think looks good with Khaki --Note*- this house has 10 foot ceilings
so paint is always expensive also and i decided to keep the paint- so God blessed me and
I got a deal that I think will look good -

I am a sucker for footstools - especially
needlepoint ones -- I have them in everyroom
- well you see I am vertically challenged at
5 ft tall - so my feet don't touch when i
sit in most chairs , -- thereby the footstool
is usually at my fav chair in each room . -

Found this beautiful flower - sort of velvety
and the creamy roses are a great contrast.

This pillow has to fit somewhere -- I LUV !!
IT !!-- One of my fav collectibles are Cherubs -
bought it for $12 at a flea market --

More of the jumble- The two lamps I hope will work
and i love the checked shade -- not sure where i will use it ,
toleware trays are my weakness -- and black backgrounds
are all that I collect . I have several in my dining room .
T his sweet angel is one of my favorites -
found at a flea market -for $5- she is reading
which has been one of my favorite pastimes
since i was a little girl -- I have another one
a smaller angel that is reading also --tho different with a green patina
Purchased it at my favorite Charleston S>C>
antique store .

THis set of green nesting tables will go well
with the green in the leaves of the
curtain material , I think -- They were a steal at
$35 -- I had to put on my glasses to be sure the price
i thought was correct . Was almost clapping my hands lol !
( BY the way not sure how true my pics are showing the colors to you
, still working on my photo skills )
but * the fabric background is black -- I also have a metal
shelf red bought from Hobby Lobby.to add the pop of red
The thing I have not worked out in my head is
the color of the bedspread -- remember I am looking for a daybead
black metal or wood -- rubbed off -- country french look -
ok any ideas -- was thinking of black ticking maybe ?? yikes scared here -
-- Have a collection of paper white pillows to toss on the bed - will be adding a chair
also even buffalo checks on pillows mixed with the solids
WHATT DA YA THINK ???

Button Love , Decorating and Random Pack Rat Collecting

Well I must say I am seriously in love with cloches
these days or sometimes called"BELL JARS " -
I think ,in Victorian times - They were used in
the garden to shelter small plants .
I love all the vignettes you can create
under them to tell a story .

These are currently in my soon to be guest room,
inherited from my youngest son when he got married
So now this is a place for random collections ,
-as I have not picked out a bed -- we let him take an
an tique brass bed with him for their guest room .
He and his Dad -( a long time antique shopper )
bought it one Saturday when we redid his room
in an adult version -- He had chosen the paint -
Ralph Lauren - a Khaki color -- I am not repainting ,
so have started collecting ideas for this room
and as you can see I have a serious love for buttons
and sewing items -- and I don't like to sew - go figure -
but I so admire those who do -- andlove
beautiful fabrics and trims.

Love these buttons , and the wonderful old pottery piece
(I bought these at _The Plum Tree - when Dawn of The
Feathered Nest - owned it .
At this point the room is really cluttered , with items I
have bought for this room - and I am
searching for a daybed -- not having luck online
or antiquing - saw a few but some are way beyond
the price point I have in mind -- will add a few
more pics later, as I sort out - wow too cluttered to show-
As usual with children , there are a few boxes still
remaining ,that my son needs to get and go through.
It makes me a little sad to see the last remnants
of the Baby (24 -lol ) leaving our home . But
really they are the cutest couple and have such a sweet
and happy home . They are renting a very historic
apt in a building that was once a post office . I will take some pics
of it on my Historic trail picture taking jaunt to town .

Blessings - Kathy
